Monday Morning Messy Makers: Keeping Warm

Keep scrolling to see book recommendations, songs, rhymes, activities, and crafts!

The Mitten Chant

Here is a mitten,

A snug, fuzzy one-

With a place for my fingers

And a place for my thumb!

Here are two mittens

A colorful sight

One for my left hand

And one for my right!

Here are our mittens

As soft as can be.

A warm pair for you

And a warm pair for me!

Snowkey Pokey

Tune: Hokey Pokey

You put your right mitten In, you take your right mitten out

You put your right mitten in and you shake it all about.

You do the Snowkey Pokey and you turn yourself around…

That’s what it’s all about!

            Additional Verses:

You put your left mitten in

            You put your scarf in

You put your right boot in

You put your left boot in

            You put your hat in

Try this out!

Craft Instructions:

1. Decorate your hat and mittens using what you have around the house and the decorations provided.

2. Stretch out and glue the cotton balls down the edge of the mittens and the top of the hat.

3. Tape the string to connect the mittens to the hat, then hang up for all to enjoy!

Extra play Ideas:

·         Use materials found around your home to make winter clothes for your stuffed animals or toys. You could make a jacket out of cardboard, a scarf out of an old t-shirt, or mittens from construction paper. Send us a picture of what you come up with at macomblib.virtual@gmail.com

·         Bundle up and go for a winter walk. Look at your boot tracks in the snow behind you!
