Monday Morning Messy Makers: Ice Skating

Keep scrolling to see book recommendations, songs, rhymes, activities, and crafts!

Swish, Skate

Sang to the tune of “If You’re Happy and You Know it”

Push your feet and glide across the ice

Swish! Skate!

Keep your balance, Circle around twice

Swish! Skate!

If you take a fall,

It’s no reason to bawl!

Stand up tall and get back on the ice.

Swish! Skate!

At the Ice Rink

Tune: Frere Jaques

At the ice rink, at the ice rink

It is cold. It is cold.

We skate around in circles

We skate around in circles

Together, together.

Try this icicle craft out!

Craft Instructions:

1. Thread your beads onto the pipe cleaner.

2. Twist the pipe cleaner around a pen or pencil to give it the spiral effect.

3. Hang from the top of windows or on the Holiday tree. It will twirl and sparkle!

Extra play Ideas:

·       Role play that you are at an ice skating rink. Use sheets of parchment paper to let your child glide around the house like it is made of ice. Play holiday music and pause it intermittently to force your skater to freeze!

·         Collect some small toys and stand them up in an ice tray, with just the feet in the water. Leave them in the freezer until frozen. Your child will love to pretend the toys are ice skating on a cookie sheet “rink”.

·         Go on an icicle hunt. Who can find the longest one? How long will it take to melt if you bring it inside?
